FINMA enforcement statistics 2014 to 2025 – highlights on FINMA enforcement releases and mandatories

The upgraded data on FINMA’s enforcement statistics are now available (link).  The data include also files with data on  the cases proactively communicated by FINMA by media releases  and on FINMA’s use of mandatories:

From 2009 until October 2026, FINMA proactively published media releases on rulings in 84 enforcement cases, 53 of which were against banks (link). This number corresponds to 14 percent of the total number of enforcement cases during this period.

Over the past 11 years, FINMA has commissioned a total of 141 audits and investigations of authorized financial intermediaries, averaging 16 per year. The fees charged to the audited and investigated companies added up to 141 million Swiss francs, or 1.6 million on average. In enforcement cases, these costs are charged to the target companies in addition to FINMA’s proceedings costs. These figures demonstrate the practical importance of FINMA’s power to appoint mandatories in its enforcement toolbox (link). These numbesrs do not include on-site reviews executed by FINMA’s own staff.
